Why does it cost more to cut longer hair than short hair?

80% of the time, I have long hair. I don't know why salons would charge more for long hair than short hair. Long hair should even be cheaper because if they mess up, they have more hair to cut! (although I would get mad) Don't even include the prices of shampoo/conditioner/gel because it doesn't cost that much more to get a shampoo. I'd rather shampoo my own hair if that IS the reason.

I am donating my hair and I wanted to get a trim so I can get rid of the dead ends, but I don't want to pay $45 to get a little trim when I can pay $25 for $20 to get a styling for a short haircut after I donate it.Why does it cost more to cut longer hair than short hair?
When you go to a salon, a stylist doesn't charge for the amount of hair she is taking off, they charge on how much time it takes to get your hair done.

I can generally do a short cut in 15-20 minutes, a longer cut can take from 30-60 mins. The more hair, the more we time it takes to cross check, and work with to get everything perfect.

Some stylists charge extra for a blow dry and style, maybe try asking your stylist if she charges, and if she does, tell her you want to style it yourself.

Hope this helpsWhy does it cost more to cut longer hair than short hair?
A trim is just taking off the ends, not trimming layers or anything. Once you get into fixing up the layers, it's considered a whole cut again :( But if you've just gotten the ends off, you shouldn't be paying more for just a trim then a short cut and styling! Call some other salons for cheaper price

well if you're layering long hair, it takes FOREVER. and it takes more time, even if you're not layering.

but on the bright side, short hair is more expensive to maintain. (you have to cut it often to keep the style.)
Because they have to snip more of hair away. And its a tiny bit more difficult. When i tried on my sis's hair (long) i got frustrated and i quit. xD
