Is it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get hair dressers to do it?

And what chemicals do you have to use and the method and stuff, and I would also like to know how much hair dressers charge (i live in aus)Is it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get hair dressers to do it?
you could do it at home but it would be safer to go to a salon and you would have to call around for different prices. for temporary straightener there are straighteners you use like a curling iron can get at beauty supply store or walmartIs it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get hair dressers to do it?
No you can go to a hair store and buy a boxed hair straighen chemical. I think possibly walmart or kmart might sell them to, i'd go to a hair store though, i would trust it better and ask the workers they would know more about whats best.
Yeah. you can get a perm and it automatically straightens your hair. (You might need a family member to do it for you. If you follow the directions really carefully you could do it yourself) It would help if you went to the hair salon to get a blow dry (after the perm) it only costs about 10-15 dollars. Trust me, its worth it cuz your hair will come out nice and wavy at the tips. it'll look hot! If you have dark hair, I would recommend dark and lovely. If not, use nature. You can get all these at a beauty supply store or walgreens. Good luck!

yes it is possible to chemically straighten your hair at home but i would recommend to not use it at all. i chemically straightened my hair and it ruined my hair, it made my hair dry and fried out. if you dont believe me try it and you will see what happens and im sure you will regret doing it just like i did. please consider other ways to straighten your hair like a flat iron/straightner its better than having messed up hair.Is it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get hair dressers to do it?
There is a product that comes in a box... (kind of vague, I know...) but it is in the 'boxed hairdye' section of the store... It works really well... I think it is $20 tops.

What would u tip to a hair dresser workinh out of home?

i go to a lady to get my hair done.she works out of her home.i get a hair cut ,dye, high lites sometimes.since she works out of her home.do u still tip her like u would someone at a salon.cause come to think about it she only buys the product ,the rest is profit 4 her.and u have to pay cash so she doesn't claim her working out of home nor does she pay taxes,i asked.would i tip her less than going to a salon? What would u tip to a hair dresser workinh out of home?
I do the same and I always tip her the same as if I was going to a salon. What would u tip to a hair dresser workinh out of home?
Actually, a lot of times, it costs the hairdresser more to work out of their home. I would suggest tipping them more than the ones in the salon.

  • How much should I tip my hair dresser who works from HOME?

Ive been with my stylist for about 7years now and 3 salons, she recently had a baby and is now doing hair from her house which is a good 40 minute drive for me without traffic. She said she would lower her price due to the inconvenience so when I went to her house for the first time she only took off $13, that about covered my gas....Anyway I usually tip between $20-$25 depending on highlights so do I still give this much of a tip with her working from home now and collecting 100% profit and not splitting with the salon? Also, were talking cutting hair in the garage, washing in the kitchen sink, and her 2 children home. I feel like Im the one doing the favor by still using her but getting ripped off. Ive compared prices with 2 other girls who do hair from home and they were both $25 cheaper too. Any suggestions would be great. How much should I tip my hair dresser who works from HOME?
You don't need to tip. You feel awkward by the new situation and you don't want to hurt the stylists feeling by removing the tip. But she is, however, making more money cutting your hair at her home than she was in cutting it at a salon. Talk to her about it. Come to a mutual understanding before your next appointment. And emphasize the long, one way drive you must take to get there. Let her know that any decision you must make with using her in the future is a matter of weighing the loss of time on the road vs. the cost to your pocketbook.

If you're simply trying to find a way to break this business relationship, then now is the best time. No need to call and break it up unless you do have a good friendship. Do you meet for coffee now and again? If not, then don't worry about calling her. If it is a friendship you wish to keep, then do talk to her about your issues.

Good luck. How much should I tip my hair dresser who works from HOME?
Is she running a business? By that I mean will she claim the money on her tax return or this is a all cash deal if you know what I mean.

If it's all cash, then everything is included on the price. Otherwise, normal tip should suffice.
Well, it's still a business, so you tip the standard percentage, 15 to 20 percent depending on the service and your satisfaction with it. The fact that you have to travel a really long way and feel like you're doing her a favor, or that you don't like the environment she does your hair in, has nothing to do with it. If she does an excellent job on your hair, she's still running a business no matter where it is, so you tip her 15 to 20 percent. However, it sounds like the drive and the environment are making you less than happy with the service, no matter how good your hair looks. In that case, you don't short your stylist on her tip; you find another good stylist closer to home in a proper shop. It's the only fair way to handle this (I've had this experience too).
Tip her based on her service and how well she does your hair rather than thinking about what she does with the money. Typically any tips you give the stylists, go directly to them. They pay a salon fee that is not deducted from tips. (Usually)

I'd say anywhere between 15%-20% if you like your results is reasonable because you are still choosing to go to her despite the unprofessional atmosphere and the inconvenient drive. I wouldn't tip any less than usual just because she's chosen to work from home. She is working with you in lowering costs (even though it may not be much).

Or your other option is to check out the other stylists since they are more convenient, and see if they do just as good of a job if not better.

Hair Dresser Rules about cutting hair in the home?

Hello. I am in a disagreement about this. My sister is a licensed hair dresser. It is illegal for her to cut my hair in my home? If it is, can you please show where where to find that on the internet. If no, how can I back this up? Thanks.Hair Dresser Rules about cutting hair in the home?
No, it is not illegal for her to cut your hair at home. She can not do this at home with clients if her house isn't licensed for her to do this.Hair Dresser Rules about cutting hair in the home?
It's not illegal for her to cut it in your home... but if you wanted to sue her for some hygiene issues you'd have every right. She's probably just protecting herself. If she does hair in a home or somewhere that's not a licensed salon... then I'd tell her to have everyone sign a waiver...
No...She can cut hair anywhere she likes. She's licensed.

She can cut hair on the street or in the ocean.
That's ridiculous! Why would it be illegal? So weird.
Ermm No!! Dont Be So Silly! :P

How can I fix my hair? I have dyed it at home it was red in the hair dressers now I am trying to get it lighte

I went to a hair dressers had it mail box red on one side and deep purple on the other side, Its been a while since i have had it done so it has faded a lot to a very light orange/red. I have tried to lighten it myself using Schwarzkopf Live coulour xxL chocolate blonde. Its a lightner for dark hair. Unfortunaltly I am now sat here with multi-couloured red/pink/orange hair!! I have got a brown hair dye will this cover it? Any helpful advise? Thanks Amy :-(How can I fix my hair? I have dyed it at home it was red in the hair dressers now I am trying to get it lighte
i would sit in the sun! for a while

if that doesnt work then dye your hair the brown color!

Hair dresser or home kit for dying hair ?

i have natural brown hair, and i really want bleach blonde hair.

ive used a store bought dyer before %26amp; i just made my hair like an orangy.

would going to a salon/ profecional hair dress make my hair actuly blonde not orange !? !?

what do you recommeded ?Hair dresser or home kit for dying hair ?
Go to a hairdresser - the quality will look better no matter how good you are at doing your own hair - because they're using higher grade stuff (usually, anyway). While you're there, ask for advice on how to get the best results doing it yourself the next time.Hair dresser or home kit for dying hair ?
    go to the pros!!

what you can buy over the counter is not that good quality

also you did not go to school for hair so you do not know what you are doing

at the salon we can do highlights with a lightener...bleach...that is safer than what you can buy as well as lighten up your natural haircolor to a blonde color. thus giving your hair a more natural blonde color and not a flat tone or orange/brassy gold tones!

best of luck...please bring a picture to the salon so together you and the colorist can decide on the best outcome for your hair!
    Lightning your hair is very harsh only a Professional who has been trained can lift your hair to the right stage (level of blond) and protect it at the same time remember healthy hair is usually only one level of color {up or down- dark or lighter}
Um id say Use kool-aid you can do that!

1.It not expensivee! fo sho :P

www.onlinegreatbuys.orgIs it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get a hair dresser to do it?
i think itd be smartest to go to a hair dresser. i dont know how much they cost there lol. but if u screw up at home...u might not be able to fix it. at least at a salon, they wont screw up.
Yes you can straighten your hair at home. You would have to use a ';relaxer';. You want to start at the crown of your hair or the most curliest part of you hair. Make sure not to wash your hair the day of the treatment or to scratch your head. Please follow the manufactures guides and if it's burning rinse, rinse rinse!!! You may feel a tingling sensation but, that is okay. Also make sure to moisturize your hair really good after wards.
You can do this your self ofcourse but im a hair dresser and doing any chemically straightening can be dangerset if you have never done this before...I say have this done at a salon trust me you dont wanna get burned its not a nice thing and ive seen many burns caused from chemicals this can costed so much more in medical bills
last time i did purchase a set of straighten hair system with www.kcareshop.com, just took few days i was get it and the web would let u know how to do it...or u can mailing or calling the e-consultant for further consultation, very helpful side, please check! hope this helpful for u also....
you can do at home if you know how to do it
you can buy that stuff at walmart now but i think i would have it done by a pro
If u would like to have hair, go to a hairdresser; leave it up to the pros when dealing with caustic chemical because the chances of damaging your scalp or loosing hair is very high.

  • Bad hair cut, would you complain to a mobile hair dresser coming into your home?

Had my hair cut by a woman that does mobile hair dressing, having called to my home. She has cut it once before for me and it was lovely. I expected the same cut this time and she's really messed up. Would you complain to her if it were you.Bad hair cut, would you complain to a mobile hair dresser coming into your home?
Yes I would. It doesn't matter whether it's a salon or a mobile hairdresser, they are still providing a product/service for payment and if you're not satisfied you have equal cause and rights to complain.Bad hair cut, would you complain to a mobile hair dresser coming into your home?
Ofcourse I would complain to her and tell her that I do NOT require her services anymore.
im not sure that i would complain because i can be quite shy about things like that but i certainly wouldnt be inviting her back to cut it again :-)
I would because it doesn't really matter unless you are close friends with this person.

I feel for Ellen Degeneres with the dog thing, but what was TMZ doing @ her hair dressers home if not staged?

Keith Urban proved he's a great person for performing even though Ellen was a no show. What do you think: staged or not? Why would TMZ cameras be at some hairdressers home when they came to get the dog back? Were they tipped off?I feel for Ellen Degeneres with the dog thing, but what was TMZ doing @ her hair dressers home if not staged?
The whole thing was staged. There is a tape of her lawyer threatening the animal shelter before she went on her show. I don't doubt her emotions, but this whole thing would never have happened if people who've gotten too big for their britches would do things the way us 'ordinary' people have to, and I'm not just talking about Ellen. The lawyer for the shelter has emails from the hairdresser's family refusing to come in and fill out paperwork when asked. They probably could have the dog right now if they had done what everyone else has to do. Hollywood has a way of making its residents believe they get their way and you cry about it publicly when you don't.I feel for Ellen Degeneres with the dog thing, but what was TMZ doing @ her hair dressers home if not staged?
Yeah I was wondering about that too ......I am now beginning to think it was staged too........but I still feel for the family

I hope this all comes to an end soon...
i thought it was all staged for plublicity for the animal place

this sort of stuff happens just before the end it's a sign that Ellen's days on tv are numbered
I think it was staged, and it reflects poorly on them that they would do all this and try to strong arm the rescue group into returning the dog rather than going by the rules. I read that the woman was even willing to let them complete the adoption application online, but the daughter complained that it was too long. This poor woman can't even operate her business because these loonies are threatening and harassing her. Shame on Ellen, her publicist and anyone else involved in this mess.
OF COURSE it was a big performance for the camera, I am sure they felt bad, but come on they had the dog only 2 weeks. For the animal agency's efforts to make sure the dogs are placed in good homes etc.... this is the thanks they get death threats, harassing phone calls all because a celebrity (no matter how nice) felt they don't have to be held to contracts like everyone else. I think this was not a good thing that Ellen did.

Is the hair dye used in hair dressers/salon better quality than home dye kits?

Hi, is the hair dye used in hair dressers better quality than home dye kits?

Will it cause less damage to your hair?

Basically is it worth spending the extra money going to the salon?

Thank you :)Is the hair dye used in hair dressers/salon better quality than home dye kits?
    (Miku!)

The hair salon I go to uses Special Fx for their unnatural dyes and you can buy that yourself at Sally's.

BUT they'll take better care of your hair for the initial dying.

Especially if you need to get it bleached for the color. Unless you know what you're doing, never bleach at home.Is the hair dye used in hair dressers/salon better quality than home dye kits?
yes, it is better. but you should do it from the box because you dont have sto spen as much money and you wouldnt have to keep on going every few months to get it done. also, if you get it done at the salon, and you want to die your hair from the box, since you have all of those cemicals from the salon, it can turn your hair green or another colour. i dont think its worth getting it done.

    hope this helped %26lt;3
yes salons generally use colour that is not publicly available and colorist know the rules and laws of hair colour to get you the result you want hair is not just a piece of fabric that when a dye is applied to it will come out exactly what is stated on the box there are so many factors that go into getting the correct and true result and should be left to the professionals unless you have spent years learning colour and deal with multiple colour scenarios every day

And what chemicals do you have to use and the method and stuff, and I would also like to know how much hair dressers charge (i live in aus)Is it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get hair dressers to do it?
please go to a professional for that! you can EASILY burn your hair off with at home chemicals, espeically if you hair is damaged. no matter how much it is to get it done professionally, its worth having hair stillIs it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get hair dressers to do it?
Yes. You can go to any drugstore %26amp; get a ';box perm';. You (or someone else) can perm your hair at home, however I think going to a stylist is better b/c the products are of better quality.
My wife has afro hair and she straightens her hair at home with that stuff. Be carefult though that stuff is pretty powerful don't leave it on too long.

Best thing to do is find a Hairdressers/Beauticians suppliers near you they usually have a shop attached to the warehouse and sell all the same stuff you see in the Salons.
you can buy kits at the store but i wouldnt recommend it. the japanese hair straightening system is the best at 500 bucks depending on length. there are relaxers for less but are very damaging. the home kits you need to do carefully if you want to still have hair after, go to a BEAUTY SUPPLY store and have them explain it to you if you do decide to do it yourself
you can go to a pharmacy / convient store and buy one... its like a hair dye but its not its a striaghtner
i dont thin you can so that
i would just like to let you know that when i got my fringe chemically straightened at the hairdresser a couple of issues came up

1.half way through she told me because i have dyed my hair it could snap of...(half way through!!!)

2.when it grew back it was wavy as hell and bobby pins became my best friend.

so if either of these issues bother you DONT DO IT
you have to get it perfessionally done. and that way is probably safer!

Is a hair stylist/dresser supposed to be fast or slow?

Would you prefer a quick working hair stylist (who has much experience) Or a slow hair stylist...

    And why please.

I live in Missouri my mom does hair, she has been doing it for around 20 years now and works quick. She knows whats shes doing, not not measure things, and people she works with believe that a SLOW hair stylist is best? Whaaat?

Whats it like in New York, Calirfornia, etc.Is a hair stylist/dresser supposed to be fast or slow?
Speed doesn't always matter. The end result does. A good stylist can give you the look you want without ruining your hair. I don't want to sit in the chair all day for a simple color and cut, but when you work too quickly you can sometimes make mistakes (missing spots that needed coloring, uneven cuts). It all depends on what work you're having done, how long/thick the hair is, etc.

Well, anyway, i want to change my hair, but my mum wont let me cut it too short (nothing shorter that past my shoulders.) Hiya.

Your haircut sounds nice! Just make sure you don't have split ends.

Just try out some different styles, whatever you're comfortable with.

I go on youtube.com and search some cool hairstyles and tips. I also look in magazines at celeb's styles and see which one i think would suit me. My favorite's is beach waves, which is wavy hair (but not frizzy) and it looks really nice!xxCalling All Hair Dressers/Stylists!! Plz Help :-S?
Wow. Your hair sounds really nice. It sounds like you can choose from a lot of styles. I would suggest purchasing a professional stylist book of styles or checking out various styles online. Please consider your hair texture when making your choice. Hair texture will determine how well the style holds.

Maybe you can convince mom that cutting your hair is a good idea. If you visit http://www.haironsale.com you can list your hair for sale with up to 3 color photos. You can make some good money and sport a brand new style. They do not charge a commission. What you make is your so keep!

Good god, Give people time to answer your question. Depending on how many times you have colored your hair, and how much build you have, It will take alot of bleaches, because when you have build up in your hair, The bleach won't lighten the ends. The roots, Yes, The ends no. You can bleach the hair in one sitting, As long as you don't go over the yellow blonde stages(Which really, You don't need to go that light, You just go light enough to color your hair.).You don't need to strip your hair, It does the same thing. You can add the color and highlights the same day. That's usually what people do.Please help me ! HAIR DRESSERS/ HAIR STYLISTS ANYONE ?
Depending on how may times you have colored your hair will determine how hard it will be to make your hair a blonde color. Normally hairdressers will bleach and strip the color out but it will take some time. However your hair will turn out a redy sort of colour because hair is made up of mostly black and red pigments. You will cause quite a bit of damage unfortunately if you plan to go through with this.

    Good Luck.
just keep in mind what your eyebrows will look like. I don't know if you would bleach those

Question for hair stylists/dressers and professionals?

i dye my hair black i do it at home with the do it yourself kind and i wanted to know if dyeing the hair has any negative effect on the scalp later on such as permanent scalp damage or hair loss and also can dyeing hair cause bald spots later on in life? and also i was just wondering if dyeing your hair lighter than its natural color damages your hair more than dyeing it darker than your natural color for example if you have medium brown hair would it hurt your hair more to dye it blond then dyeing it black? and also how often should i get my roots touched up so that it doesnt hurt my scalp?Question for hair stylists/dressers and professionals?
You will not have any permanent scalp or follicular problems from hair color. If not done right, you can damage your hair but it's nothing the ole' shears and some time won't cure!

Yes, going lighter is more damaging to the hair than going darker. When going lighter the color needs a more alkaline pH to assist in the removal of natural melanin. This in itself is what damages the hair. When doing the ';kitchen cosmo'; act with your hair and you're going darker stick with a ';Demi Permanent'; color. It's job is to simply deposit color. The difference between ';Demi Permanent'; and ';Permanent'; hair color is that the demi colors do not have the capacity to remove natural melanin. Since you're only going darker that's all you need! Make sure you are using professional shampoos and conditioners designed for color treated hair as these will save the integrity of your hair and keep it from fading. \

Your schedule for touch ups really is an individual decision. But if you don't deviate from your natural level by more than 2 levels lighter or darker you can go longer between touch ups.Question for hair stylists/dressers and professionals?
sometimes it do it's just better if you went to the salon sweety next time dont do that becuz your hair cant always take them chemicals

It really depends on how nice the salon is. If you want really cheap prices, a beauty school would be the best place.
Yes you may receive this service at a local beauty school, but I suggest you visit a salon with a master colorist. Hair color is a tricky thing and requires a certain level of time the colorist has been in the business. Of coures it will cost more, but you will look good! If there is a school that teaches only hair color in your area, that may work. If you see someone with the service you want, ask them where they go.

How do i keep my hair straight? Hair dressers/stylists!!?

well i straighten my hair, but it is like shoulder length, so it curls on my shouldrs and its like when i get to school its all curly, do you know anything i could put on it or any shampoo to use to keep it straight?

i have tried herbal essences seductivley straight and that did not work.

Oh and i have wavy hair, so i straighten most days.

    its so ANNOYING!!

please help!!How do i keep my hair straight? Hair dressers/stylists!!?
The reason your hair does this is because it is trying to fit the shape of your shoulders.

one way to prevent this is to put a small amount of hairspray on the ends of your hair before and after you straighten it.How do i keep my hair straight? Hair dressers/stylists!!?
You can get GHD's which are the straighteners used in salons. also put on hair serum. When you straighten your hair make sure you do it in sections as this way all of your hair will be straight. You can also use hairspray to hold it. i have also used john frieda straight hair range and find it helps me on days i dont straighten my hair.

My normal hair dresser was busy so I went to see a different stylist, is it bad to trade?

So I go to this high end salon, and the owner and a colorist usually do my hair. But they were busy and I needed an emergency appt., so I scheduled with who was available and that was the owners girlfriend. She did a great job, in fact I liked her better than my typical colorist and equally as much as the owner and charges less, which is good for me. Would it look bad to go to her now instead of the other too. Or would this make me look bad with the people who usually do my hair.My normal hair dresser was busy so I went to see a different stylist, is it bad to trade?
In any professional salon it is fine to change to another colorist or stylist. If they are all professional, they should not have an issue with it. Sometimes some have a problem with it but it is a personal issue within themselves, and should not be reflected towards you, after all your money is still staying within their business. Let your new colorist know you would like to come see her again and don't worry about anyone else, just enjoy your fantastic hair!!

Hair stylist/ hair dressers!!!! color ?

i dyed my hair black about 5 months ago and i want to dye my hair a really light brown and possibly some blonde highlights for this summer. i just want to what the process my hair has to go through? does the black color have to be stripped or can it just be bleach over and then colored. how much will it cost???Hair stylist/ hair dressers!!!! color ?
if you bleach your hair it will go orange, and make the brown you put on top be really brassy. it would be best to get the black striped out, adn then the brown put on. the blonde highlights will have to be put in after the hair has been stripped, and then toned.

you are probably looking at about 80-100 dollars, only because it has to be stripped, adn because the highlights will make it cost more.

good luckHair stylist/ hair dressers!!!! color ?
well, i say u can dye over it and it may possibly cost about 89-100 dollors but it depends on your hairdresser call 330-8004
you will most likely have to bleach your hair and then dye it light brown. if you want to see what it would look like upload your pic to www.taaz.com and try on all kinds of hairstyles and colors!!

    Hair Dressers/Stylist...PLEASE HELP!!!?

Is it better to have your extensions sewed in, stapleed, or glued on?? Which was will last longer and easier to maintain??Hair Dressers/Stylist...PLEASE HELP!!!?
I own a salon... I have never heard of stapled in! Glued in is the most damaging on your real hair. I would suggest sewed in. What they do is braid your real hair and then they wil actually take a C shaped needles and thread the Extension to your braided hair. This will last about a month to a month and a half.. the synthetic hair is what gets kind of funky so you can really start to tell it's fake so after a month or so just replace it. Depending on how much hair you have and how much you want it can be pretty expensive. E-mail me if you have more questions.

Hair stylists only: How would I tell a hair dresser how to cut my hair like this?

I really want to get my hair cut, but i'm afraid they'll mess it up.

So how exactly could I explain it to them?

xxHair stylists only: How would I tell a hair dresser how to cut my hair like this?
Good choices! Either would look good on you. Print the pix and take them to the stylist...verbal descriptions leave a lot of room for misinterpretation. Also, if you see someone with a similar cut that you like, ask them who did their hair. Stylist, like other creative people, have 'long suits', things they are good in. Some are great at short hair cutting, not so good with long. Some are great with coloring hair, so-so at cutting, etc. That's why seeing a hair cut that you like and finding the stylist that cut is is so beneficial. Good luck!Hair stylists only: How would I tell a hair dresser how to cut my hair like this?
I can't wait to see your new hair!
print the picture out, and show it to them.
Print out pictures of what you want. I would recommend that you skip GreatClips and go to a professional salon where the stylists are more adept to understand what you want. Show your stylist the pictures, and explain to her what it exactly is that you like about each picture (length, bangs, coloring, etc.) She/he will most likely be able to interpet these pictures to prefection on your own hair.

Also, during the appointment, don't be afraid to speak up while the stylist is hacking away and ask for changes...otherwise you'll be left with a 'do' you didn't want for the next 5 months, lol HIH
the first picture pretty much looks like how my hair is cut. my stylist put long layers in it. you could probably just say ';i want my hair layered'; it would probably come out how you want it. but to get it to look pretty much exactly how you want it, get a picture. sometimes getting your hair cut a certain way wont look exactly like the picture you bring in though, it all depends on how the stylist interprets the picture, how thick your hair is, where you natural wave is (if you have one), and how short you cut it.
I would just print out this picture and bring the picture in so your stylists can see exactly how you want your hair.
    lol.thats the ';rachel';

just print the picture and show your stylist.
Print out the picture and give it to the stylists.

Say you want long choppy layers with choppy side bangs.

Also, point to the things you really like in the picture.
    bring your hairdresser a picture
I'm not a hairstylist, but with some experience

in going to salons, I easily hand them the picture

and work with them by talking it out.

If you want a shorter length, say so.

If you want different bangs, say so.

You just have to be cooperative in order

for the hairdresser to do it right.
Bring the picture in with you and they should be able to help you and they will ask you what lenght you want etc. Let them know that you want their opinion and some help talk to them about it before hand.

    help me with mine

How much are you supposed to tip your hair dresser? I spent $80 today and gave my stylist a $10 tip.?

Is that too much? Too little? What's the rule? Usually at a restaurant, I give double the tax. Is it supposed to be about 15% at the hair salon? Same for getting nails done?

I work in a service job as well, so I understand the whole tip thing when you work with people.. However, I am a doctor and my profession (along with lawyers) has been labelled as the 'worst tippers'. I dopn't know why.How much are you supposed to tip your hair dresser? I spent $80 today and gave my stylist a $10 tip.?
truth is, the salon owner overcharges you and the poor stylist is probably depending on the tip. they all have wrist pain and carpel tunnel syndrome, not to mention varicose veins from standing all day, so go ahead and give'em the 15%.How much are you supposed to tip your hair dresser? I spent $80 today and gave my stylist a $10 tip.?
you are the worst tippers because people think that you are rich and you should give people that service you more than you do. Because they think that your rich. Like you dont have bills to pay yourself. 10 dollars was enough for her other people dont tip so its plenty. And she charged you 70 dollars in the first place. Thats too high in the first place. go to a salon of color and you will pay 30 for a wash and set. 60 for a perm if you use their product. 50 if you bring your own.
    $80.00 haircut = $16.00 tip :)
first time ever i heared about someone tipping a hair dresser.

    And i ain't no doctor.
    That's 12.5% . Sounds fair to me.
that's what tipped my hair dresser when i had my hair done. so i think that's about right
Although the salon may be overcharging you, usually the person doing your hair gets a (low) hourly rate. So tip the stylist 10-20 percent, depending on how hard they worked and how much you can afford. Same goes for nails.

As for doctors- I could see how people expect them to give big tips- just because they are doctors. Most of them work really hard and it's not fair to assume that they should pay more than anyone else.
I figure as much as they charge, that is their tip. What I'd like to know is why everyone these days expect a tip. It's gotten way out of control if you ask me.
I usually go by the waitress rule (I was one and probably overtip) but I have never left less than 5 and usually 20 percent of the tab. For my stylist, I do the same thing!

(My hair is great. They love me!)
That's About Right, I Think It's Supposed To be About 15%.
If she/he is the owner then tipping is not needed however, tipping the shampoo washer is good. And if the hairdresser is not the owner then you should tip according to how well you like the style or with myself how long i know my hairdresser.
You spent 80 bucks? No wonder my health care is so high.
20 % for hair dressers ,, and yes the richer the client the worse the tip . They actually think we earn enough and get paid . they figure we don't get tipped why should you . My best tippers are waitresses .. and i tip the waitresses what i think proper , if she is really pleasant , say my meal was $40.00 i would tip her a $20.00 if she performed poorly ,$8.00 Tip what you can most hairdressers are just happy to have you come back in their chair again , and if they know you are strapped for cash ,,, they would understand .
my best friend is a hair stylist and a $10 tip would be considered an insult. you should be tipping $20 probably - especially if you like it. its hard to get a good hair style or color.

my friend is a good stylist and a lot of her clients will tip what they paid for a haircut - i personally think that is insane. i say a $20 tip is best.
    five
i think 10-15 % if you find their services satisfied
    $2
its completely up to you but remember hairdressers wages are not that good so they appreciate any thing you give them unless you take the piss and give them a penny or cent
15%??? maybe in the 80's, nowadays we go 25% wherever me and the misses go... dinner, haircut anything that requires tipping....25%
15% if u r having dinner this is too much
    I don't tip my hairdresser so I wouldn't know...
    dont tip noone does
i say give them a 5 dollar tip i mean damn u already spent 80 bucks and 4 me... they have 2 do a really good job 2 get 10 bucks
im not even going to touch the tipping doctors thing...

But i think 80 bucks for your hair is reasonable IF you like the outcome. I pay between 80-235 for my hair and i dont complain cuz i can go somewhere cheaper but i dont get the same result. as for the tip i always tip and well, if you appreciate the job he did TIP if not dont
Well, my mother is a stylist and I can tell you for sure that a 10 dollar tip on an 80 dollar service is just ';ok';. It means that the service was fine, but not fabulous. 20% tip is for a stylist whom you enjoy, frequent regularly and trust their work. Are you a dedicated person to them? If so, think about a better tip and also holiday gifts. Depending on who they are, during the christmas holidays, a bottle of wine, etc is always a nice thing. During the holidays, my mother comes home with many gifts that her clients give her (if not gift, then a monetary gift, such as a much higher tip)...she is always so appreciative. Hope this helps... there are not many people left in this world who are dedicated to customer service like the hairstylist. Goodluck!
I'd say it would depend on how good the haircut turned out....make the tip for what it's worth to you....
0 dollars for a bad job,10% for an okay job,20% if the person is a freind or did a great job or a large amount of effort
it depends on the service we had

    Hair Stylist/Hair Dresser Salary question...?

Do Hair stylists at private salons get a percentage of the hair cut they do or do they just get an hourly rate plus tips? Private Salons vs. Chain Salons?Hair Stylist/Hair Dresser Salary question...?
Depends on the business, you should go to salons and ask for an ';informational interview'; with the manager.

The tax implications are way different. If you are paid hourly plus tips, the salon deducts and pays your income taxes and Social Security and Medicare taxes for you.

If you get a percentage of the hair cut, or get the whole amount of money and rent the chair, then you have to make your own quarterly income tax payments as well as 15% Social Security and Medicare taxes.

A Chain Salon could be a franchise, so there is no way of knowing without asking each individual salon.

Allure magazine reviews salons throughout the U.S. Here's the link to their directory for S.F.: http://www.allure.com/directory/san_fran

You can also take walks in the more stylish neighborhoods/streets of S.F. %26amp; check out salons. (e.g. Noe Valley or Union St. as opposed to the Sunset or Richmond district)

There are two local free papers that have ads from edgier boutiques %26amp; salons - SF Weekly %26amp; the SF Bay Guardian. Sometimes, hair salons offer training nights. Clients can get their hair cut by junior stylists or senior stylists @ lower prices so the stylists can practice or demonstrate new techniques/cuts.

Can anyone recommend a GOOD black hair dresser/stylist in east phoenix, and the cost a.s.a.p..thanks?

Hair is hair. Any stylist with the right amout of experience can do yours.

Why do HAIR STYLIST, HAIR DRESSER, and BARBER'S need to have STATE LICENSES to practice their trades?

it is mostly for the safety and sanitation aspect of our job, to make sure we aren't spreading anything (ex. lice)... not for the actually technical part of cutting hair... And in many states they still do shaving and i don't think you would want some dirty rusty blade on your face much less cutting you and possibly spreading HIV, AIDS, ect....

don't belittle other peoples careers it's very insulting, if you think it's that easy cut your own hairWhy do HAIR STYLIST, HAIR DRESSER, and BARBER'S need to have STATE LICENSES to practice their trades?

As a hair dresser/stylist, what the heck would i talk about with my clients?

    not the weather either! lol

im a quiet person who doesnt really care to conversate about anything outside of what i do. but i know when u go to a salon people like to talk to you while they are cutting hair, i admit it makes it less awkward and stuff, so when i become one what can i say to people i have nothing in common with? im no good at starting conversations! As a hair dresser/stylist, what the heck would i talk about with my clients?
People like to talk about their kids.... so you can say do you have kids? and they will state, yes, I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old. Are they boys or girls? I have a girl and a boy. Jimmy is the oldest and Sarah is my sweetie pumpkin..... etc.

As soon as you come up with one topic, it usually gets the ball rolling. You show an interest in them, will also reward in a better tip too.. lol

    others you can mention:

Did you see on the news the other day about the.....?

I hear they are having a big sale at.....?

I am so glad the gas is finally going down to .... a gallon.

You have very fine hair. We have this ..... shampoo that would be good for it.

i dont know im like you and i want to be a hairdresser but my mom was one and she used to ask the people if they were in school what school they went to, sometimes about music, if a song she liked came on. all i can say is just think of stuff to talk about like hair, school, the weather, the day lol

Edit: you dont have to talk to them the whole time just so its not boring for them just sittin there if your doing there hair for 2 hours lol

and also you could ask them if they want to read a magazine so there busy reading a magazine and your doing there hair so you dont really have to talk
I do not think it as important to fin things to talk about as it is to read the person that will be in your chair.

Some people don't like chatty hairdressers ~ some people are having a bad day %26amp; just want to sit ~ others like to talk %26amp; they can continue the conversation if you just ask how are you today ~ they will take it from there %26amp; you can follow ~

Personally I am usually quiet in the chair %26amp; just want to relax.

Owe ~ the day~ sports ~ your kids ~ others kids ~ fav time where you just went or a cool spot you just visited....... Whats on tv where you work...

Just relax %26amp; go with the flow

But the weather is a great conversation starter!

Wait for them to talk to you :)

Is a hair stylist/dresser supposed to be fast or slow?

Would you prefer a quick working hair stylist (who has much experience) Or a slow hair stylist...

    And why please.

I live in Missouri my mom does hair, she has been doing it for around 20 years now and works quick. She knows whats shes doing, doesnt have to measure things/go by the book, and people she works with believe that a SLOW hair stylist is best? Whaaat?

What is it like in New York, Calirfornia, etc.Is a hair stylist/dresser supposed to be fast or slow?
Well im from NYC and have seen celebrity hairstylists like Frederic Fekkai, Ted Gibson, and recently Rodney Cutler. What I've noticed is that they pay a lot of attention to detail and work slow. They only use scissors and never use those electric sheer things or whatever they are and often have a whole line of different scissors in front of them to use. I've never seen that with regular stylists. It seems that slow and easy is better. But everyone has a different technique. Hair is an art. I know people who have to be slow and precise when they do art. I cant do art slow. I actually work better faster without doing all the measuring and stuff. It depends ont eh person. There is no best way.Is a hair stylist/dresser supposed to be fast or slow?
doesn't matter as long as they do an awesome job, but personaly my hair stylist is slow but its totally worth it, i would rather wait longer 2 have aAmazingng hairstyle than leavearlierer with an ok hairstyle, hope i helped :)
It all depends on the hair style. If you are asking your stylist to do some complex cut, she should go slow. If it is a simple trim, it should go pretty fast.
maybe you need to do both be slow but also fast!lol

How much Tip should you give a hair stylist / hair dresser?

I'm going in for highlights, hair cut, wash, with Style. The total cost is $130 but she is discounting it because I'm a new client. She is giving me a 30% discount so the total cost is $91.00. How much tip should I give her. What is the industry standard so I don't offend her if she does a good job. I now this is something that is sliding scale based on her performance but what is the industry standard so I have a base to work with (I would hate to insult her/ or overtip on a first visit). How much Tip should you give a hair stylist / hair dresser?
industry standard is 15%, plus some say to tip the person who shampoos also(i dont) i always tip 15%, unless im not happy... then i let the stylist know... $95 is alot of money, and i expect satisfaction. i never mind paying or tipping for a service , as long as it is performed(ie... restaurant, nails massage, ...)How much Tip should you give a hair stylist / hair dresser?
    20% tip
I would say about $15. depending on how good of a job she does. No matter the price I always time my stylist b/w $10-$20 no matter what she does to my hair.
to depends on how well you like you hair after she gets done .i usually give five or ten dollars just for a cut and style so it depends on you.
well if shes really good give her like 15 to 20
you should start the tip scale on the amount she would normally charge, not on the amount she discounted. standard is 20% for a perfect job well done, so if she does extremely well, the tip should be $26. sliding scale for dissatisfaction or whatever you feel is appropriate. also, make sure that the salon accepts tips. many salons do not accept tips, (it's reflected in the service price.) in which it's totally acceptable to instead give non-monetary gifts. for instance, i used to have a stylist to which i'd always bring a starbucks gift card, which he loved. chocolate also seems to be popular, lol...
I would go by the national service industry which is between 15-20% depending on how well they treat you and how you'd rate their service. Hope this helps!

How do you tell your hair dresser/ stylist to give you a scene hairstyle---- besides using a picture?

I guessing you want layers so you can tease the top right? Tell your stylist

    Short layers at the top

    Keep the length

    Short layer under your ear

Disconnect the layers on top from the rest of the style

MAKE SURE you tell her exactly how you plan to style your hair.

Letting them if what they're doing is right or wrong is VERY important. How do you tell your hair dresser/ stylist to give you a scene hairstyle---- besides using a picture?
Tell them you want sideswept bangs with

short layers on the top of your head %26amp; longer

layers as you continue down. For my hair, they

take a razor thing and make random layers with

it and it looks good as long as you straighten it,

otherwise it`ll just flip out at the ends. BLEH! :DHow do you tell your hair dresser/ stylist to give you a scene hairstyle---- besides using a picture?
tell them you want really choppy layerss all overr .

also you want the back lonqer than the front but you also want to keep the lenqth of the back .

    sideswept bangs choppy also .

also tell her its scene hair that miqht also qive her an idea if she know wht your talkinq about .

    qoodluck (:
Ask for myspace hair. Or ask for a razor cut with layers and to tease it up.

My hair is breaking so badly. can someone who is professional hair dresser tell me what to use.i'm black?

my hair is permed and it is thinning out. i also had my hair dyed black and from there i see my hair breaking badly. My hair is breaking so badly. can someone who is professional hair dresser tell me what to use.i'm black?
Coloring and permed hair don't go together. Hairdressers in salons want your money so they will say its fine to do. I am a hairdresser and take it from me, whether your black or white the two don't mix well. There's nothing you can do right now except keep it trimmed. The healthier hair is closer to the roots. Use conditioner. In the future decide which is more important, colored hair or permed and do 1 .My hair is breaking so badly. can someone who is professional hair dresser tell me what to use.i'm black?
apply mayonnaise .or egg, curd and lemon pack and wrap a hot towel and after 30 minutes shampoo your hair u will have bouncy and shiney hair.
First, I am NOT a hair dresser. Stop dyeing your hair. Stop putting DRY heat on your hair (until your hair gets healthy again). I use ';Cream of Nature'; shampoo. Or Paul Mitchell products... (they are very good.)

Apply cholesterol conditioner on your WET hair, cover with a plastic cap and sit under the dryer or heat cap for at least 15 minutes. Do this at least once a week.

Your hair needs MOISTURE..... Dry hair cracks and breaks....

If your ends are breaking, I highly suggest this product in a purple tube called ';bonacure repair'; by Schwartzkopf professional. Apply it to your hair directly before drying it. Do not over dry your hair.

And once again DO NOT apply heat on your hair. Not until your hair feels healthy again. You will be able to tell.

Remember, you have done enough damage. I know it's hard, but your hair will grow and heal if you take my advice.

Girl, I feel your pain. I wish I could be of assistance for I am in the Philadelphia area. I love the Dominicans...I will ask a few of my girlfriends in the MD/DC/VA area for you. If possible, send me an IM so I can tell you where my girlfriends said for you to go.Black women: Know a good hair dresser in/around No. VA?
Sorry, I'm about 150 miles north of you. I don't know any stylists in DC, but be careful of the Dominicans. If you go, be sure your hair is healthy. They do a lot of pulling to get your hair straight like that. If your hair is damaged, that will only stress it more.
o there's a really good one in washington dc called fantastic sams and it cost only $30.00-$50.00 but the bad thing is that it's for people of color and white.sry

Looking for a hair dresser in atlanta area that does natural hair?( I am Black)?

I don't have a perm, but I am tired of just wearing ponytails. I want someone who knows what they are doing to guide me.Looking for a hair dresser in atlanta area that does natural hair?( I am Black)?
go see Brenda at the Paragon salon. She's the best...i'm not black but she always get's positive feedback...I do believe that she can do just about anything. I always go to her for my hair needs.

My hair dresser said my roots are a level 5 but they look black to me?

She said it's definitely not black but it looks like it to me...Does it just appear darker cause my hair is blonde? What is level 5 then? I want to dye it a shade of level 5...anyone know where I can see different level 5 shadeS?My hair dresser said my roots are a level 5 but they look black to me?
Each color line's hair color is different. What may be a level 5 on one is different from another.

What you should do is look at there color wheel and see what is considered a level 5 and take the swatch to your hair to compare it. In order to achieve the same color as your regrowth, you would have to use a filler before you color your hair. The filler is missing contributing pigment for your hair color. Most of the time it is red. You would need to find out the shade of red you need to add to your hair. It is better if you have this done professionally.

  • Does dying your hair black make it grow back fatser or healthier? A hair dresser told me that....so..?

I had dyed my a light brown about 3 months ago and a hair dreser todl me that darker colors make your hair grow faster?please tell me if not before i dye it,,,positive feedback pleaseDoes dying your hair black make it grow back fatser or healthier? A hair dresser told me that....so..?
It definitely gives that illusion. The lighter you dye your hair the weaker it gets; the opposite happens with darker colors because there is less chemicals. Seeing as black is the darkest you can get, black would be the healthiest color to go. I switch the colors of my hair all the time and I just dyed my hair for the third time and every time, my hair looks instantly healthier.Does dying your hair black make it grow back fatser or healthier? A hair dresser told me that....so..?
i dont think dying your hair make it grow faster or healthier. dying your hair every now and then could be lead to a hair destruction. dying a hair should be done one in every six months. because of the chemicals come from the dye it could make your hairprone to breakage and frizz.
    I don't think so.
    sounds like a myth
Will not grow faster but will give the appearance of being thicker and longer.
I wouldn't think so. Proper care is what makes your hair healthy.
Dying your hair in general is very damaging. It can leave your hair dried out and sometimes the dye changes the color of your hair. It does not help your hair grow faster because there really is no chemical in the product that would allow it. My suggestion is to dye your hair as little as possible because it can really hurt the ends of your hair.
If you want your hair to be healthier, I wouldn't dye it any color. It really just damages it with harsh chemicals. But if you dyed your hair a lighter brown using bleach (or of course went blond using bleach) it would certainly cause more damage than if you had just dyed it a dark shade. Maybe you just misunderstood what the hairstylist said.
I have never heard that. But try it if you like darker shades. My hair grows alot regardless of color.
im confused do u want us to tell u the truth or just tell u what u want to hear
no I'm sorry but it doesn't and if your hairdresser used the term dying it's time you get a different hairdresser. The darker hair color does seem to grow faster only because of the different chemicals only because of the fact that your hair is not as apt to break off as it would with the harsher chemicals used in lightening hair. And also don't go to the extreme when darkening your hair Mona Lisa was beautiful with her dark flowing hair but, it was also her natural hair that complemented her skintone.
Hmm, i guess it will make it look longer but not to the extend of growing faster...
Well for me,,,, HAir dying can really damage your hair.... It cannot make your hair long....... My sister already tried it.... Her hair became damage........ Its not good...
    no
That's just stupid. Your hair's gonna grow the same no matter what colour it is.
Absolutley not!!! Your hair only grows as fast as it grows. There is nothing you can do to make it grow faster. Think about it - any hair that you see is already dead. The only live part of your hair is the root, the part under the scalp. Why would anything you do on the scalp affect what's under the scalp?

For people with mixed kids (part black): Is it hard to find a hair dresser?

Just wondering. Particularly asian/black, pacific islander/black and hispanic/black couples. Is it difficult to find someone that can do your daughter's hair? For people with mixed kids (part black): Is it hard to find a hair dresser?
Yes it is,im african, asian, anglo and european and grew up in australia it was near impossible to go to any hairdresser in my district, everyone I went to had no idea what to do with my very very thick black curlyish/wild hair.

I ALWAYS ended up going to a middle eastern/lebanese hairdresser they had hair the same as mine and knew how to do it. I also look more like them so they knew what would suit me.For people with mixed kids (part black): Is it hard to find a hair dresser?
    I'm black/cherokee/puertorican/white

I go to Dominican Salons only, and I have a few family members and friends (hispanic or black) that go to them also. I just cannot go to an African-American stylist. When they see my hair they immediate freak out. I have very long curly hair down to my waste, its not really kinky, but tangleseasily, and they refuse to do my hair before even touching it first. And they immediatly assume that I must be tender-headed, which I am NOT. So, I do my own hair, or when I DO go to a salon, I go to the Dominicans. And when I do my hair I use hair gel, Leave-ins, or mousse thats all i need really. Also when I was younger I would get my hair straightened alot and my mom would do it, or my stylist would straighten it with a blow-drier
Not always. My mother is a hair stylist and she works with many mixed kids at our salon in our house. The ones she works with usually have wavy or straight hair. Those hair types can be easily worked with by any trained stylist. But then again, those kids were half-Somali, and Somalis don't usually tend to have kinky hair - just curly, wavy, or straight.
My lil cuz is black/Puerto rican and her hair is real easy to do. Her mom combs it out, as painful as it is getting all the tangles out and washes it. She (my aunt) doesn't really care much for shampoos and stuff for mixed kids cause the regular stuff works just as well. After washing she combs it out and styles it while its semi wet. Sorry if it doesn't make sense.
    lol

    no

    My niece is Jamacican/Dominican

and her grandma does her hair

    ((her grandma owns a salon))

    But she didnt really come out with ';bad hair';

    Its curly and long
go to a spanish/latina salon they do it best and cheapist. black salons do it good the hair style last longer but it cost more.

Need to know best hair care for black woman and tips on how to make hair grow when can't go to hair dresser

My hair is thin shoulder length.I use motions hair products please helpNeed to know best hair care for black woman and tips on how to make hair grow when can't go to hair dresser
Wash and deep condition at least once a week. Limit use of curling irons and flat irons. Limit blow drying, it's best to use rollers and sit under a hooded dryer. Wrap hair at night with a silk or satin scarf to prevent breakage. Relax hair every six weeks and make sure to have ends trimmed. Do not use a lot of grease or oil in your hair either, it will weigh it down. I only grease my scalp after washing.Need to know best hair care for black woman and tips on how to make hair grow when can't go to hair dresser
because it is shoulder length the best thing you can do is do protective styles that keep your hair off of your shoulder. it's hard to get past this length because the hair is always rubbing against things; therefore, causing splits/breakage in the hair. if your hair is relaxed then motions is a great brand to be using
You can use this hair growth stuff my sister used and it works really good and yea it is for black ppl lol I think its called miracle gro somethin like dat

There is a salon in my area specifically for black people. You can probably search for one in your area. If you can't find one then call local salons and ask if anyone there is experienced in working with african american hair.Wow i need help my hair is a mess where can i find a amazing hair dresser for black people?
Put castor oil in your hair. It will repair and make your hair thicker OR you can use Extra Virgin Olive oil or Coconut oil. both products seal in moisture. Also a good shampoo/conditioner will work wonders for your hair. Believe me because my hair was by my ear and now by my bra strap.
well honestly i think you should go to a hair salon in your area where they deal with your kind of hair. Get them to fix it, and ask advice on how to keep it looking good. It will be worth the money.

I'm a hair dresser and I refuse to do black's hair anymore. what can be done about this?

I have these blacks come in here and they have their hair up in a bun for a couple weeks and when they have me wash their hair a couple times there was mold and ringworms under there. After that I refused to do anymore black hair and besides I can't stand to touch their course hair. Blacks should go to their own hairstylist. I don't think any whites go to black hairstylists. Just one more reason to leave the city and move out west. I've been hearing a lot about that lately and I'm seriously consering it.I'm a hair dresser and I refuse to do black's hair anymore. what can be done about this?
    In a bun for over a week. Where are all of these bun wearing black women? Mold and ringworm????? And I see you have issues with the truth. Hair does not develop mold nor ringworm in week. Um, haven't you seen white prople in dreads and braids? You seriously don't think a white hairdresser did that, do you? More whites will go to black and Dominican hairdressers than vice versa. Even white women want their hair ';hooked up.'; Your post is a bunch of bull, and you just wanted a place to vent your racist views. oh yeah, and the word in your lie is spelled ';coarse.';

Good ahead, move out make your neighborhood happy.

OK - You gave your actual opinion in the first place, don't try to clean it up now, I saw another answer you gave - but here goes (for someone that might actually want a REAL answer). More than likely the she has something like alopecia[a condition that causes the hair to fall out - which may account for the hair extension], or the extension was attached too tight and pulled her hair out. As a hair dresser, you should know these things rather than spew racist garbage. Did you alert her to the missing hair? She have known the actual cause.I'm a hair dresser and I refuse to do black's hair anymore. what can be done about this?
man thats nasty you so have the right to refuse !

Yes anyone can actually see ring worms. FYI Thats a set of red circles together about 4. Obvious to anyone with any basic medical knowledge, eyesight. A red circular rash that can be behind ears, in any ethnicities beard or scalp. Such does come from none other than area skin staying unwashed.

don't worry. how do u think the others feel 2. i mean they deal with the same stuff! and if u can't deal with them then ask 2 go 2 the bathroom so someone else will do it.(usally works)
gross.......... suggest to them ways to keep their scalp healthier, if they have ringworm I would refuse to work on them, couldn't that be contagious?? Couldn't you just tell the receptionist or your boss to not assign black customers to you anymore?
    are you serious?
If you are licensed, and work in a public place, I don't think you can legally refuse to do any ones hair. You can tell a person that you aren't good with their particular type hair without coming off racist.

PS -- Black live in all parts of the states, and I like it that way. Maybe you want to consider moving to a remote island where you are the only resident. Or south of the border. I saw very few blacks in Mexico and Central America.
    mold and ringworms?
Sound like a change of profession is in order. Your local skinhead group may need a group head shaver.

I'm not a skinhead, just a 29 year old with a huge bald spot.
Get your own salon.. or you could just grow up.
Your ignorant it's people like you that cause crap for the rest of us
Perhaps you should move, somewhere that you are the only resident. Or change your career. Or perhaps you should train so you know what to do with Afro hair rather than no understanding it, educate yourself, you may find it makes you a better person. I cannot believe how racist this comment is, it's just a different type of hair, and you should have thought about that before becoming a stylist.
You are pathetic. A racist pig that doesn't deserve to have a job. By the way ringworms aren't really worms, it is a skin infection that many people get. Stay away from the west, we don't want you!!!
First and foremost you need Jesus!!! When you made the choice to become a stylist, that was a choice to just do hair. I'm a hairstylist who happens to be black, yet for one week straight all I did was white hair. Big deal, you need a reality check, it is not 1960 America is not segregated and if you want to continue to make money you need to suck it up and deal. Mold underneath a bun is highly unlikely unless you didn't completely dry their hair to begin with. Hey if you think moving though will solve your problem then go right ahead. Maybe you'll run across someone who can teach you a lesson.
You have a real problem!! You can't just lump a whole group of people into one category! I'm black and my hair has nine if that mess in it. I go to what ever kind of hairdresser I please because it's my hair and my money! You're a loser I would use a nasty word but you just NOT worth it!!!!! I hope one day you get the nerve to say that to someone that comes to get their hair done and they lay your A** out!!!
hey, instead of being so explicitly biased, by refusing black customers (bt i understand ur prob), y dont u tel all of ur customers 2 wash their hair at home b4 coming 2 ur salon?? u can put up any excuse tht it bcomes very time consuming for u 2 do the entire procedure.
oh god, people like you disgust me. you're working as a hairdresser, if you don't like it, quit. it's not as if you're so great that they want you and you alone to cut their hair. mold and ringworms?they're not the ONLY people who get it . bimbo. why can't you not serve unhygenic people then, why stereo-type the blacks?
Stop doing their hair - move to another neighborhood where there's NO blacks (sarcastically). I think you should reevaluate your career choice. You could always let your boss know that you feel uncomfortable washing or styling different minorities hair. If you don't know yet, no one has to do anything they don't want to.
    you have problems. i'm sorry

    just quit the job.
Ringworms in the hair??? You need an education first of all. T o a real hairdresser hair is hair, you should do all types, you sound alot racist, secondly african hair is not course, it looks it but is actually wooly, soft, Ya I think you should move allright.....Careers!!
You entered a service industry for a career and are now annoyed that you have to serve people?

First, stop being such a simple minded, prejudicial human being. Like whites and other races don't have issues with germs and poor hygiene - please.

Second, if you don't want to serve people - then switch careers.

You live in a multiracial country - if you don't like dealing with the other races - then move.

Please don't move out west. We don't need your small mindedness out here.
It is rude and hateful the way you phrased it. I didn't know you could actually see ring worms, I mean that's a skin infection, so you must have super power vision. Not to mention that it would be a medical marvel to see a skin infection in someones hair.

So past the exaggerating your point, and being rude. Do you own your own salon? If so take the other advice and put up a sign saying hair must be freshly washed. If not go work at another salon, there are very few instances where black people go to predominately white salons, because most white people just don't have a clue about doing their(black peoples) hair. I cant even do my own. And good luck moving!
OMG! This is hilarious. ';These blacks';??? man. Why don't you just tell em something like this:

    ';Blacks! I don't wanna do yer moldy stinkin herra!';

I'm sure they would be very understanding and kind about it. LOL!

btw...this has got to be the craziest question i've seen posted here.
its a hard subject --- i mean i cant really blame you --- but you may be coming off too strong

but to answer your question - nothing can be done... in America you have the choice to chose who you want to service.
Ok, the only reason i'm responding is because of all these comments before me. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to service African Americans - it is your own personal decision, unless you are in a business for someone else (if it's you making the decisions then it's basically whatever floats your boat)

Now for this specific situation...A woman had ringworm on her scalp?? That is disgusting - and very dangerous as ringworm is highly contagious. You could possible simply state that if the person's hair has been in a style for more than a day that it has to be washed prior to coming in to the salon.

    I hope this helped :)

  • Do black women relax their hair in order to go to white hair dressers?

....Being that I live in Atlanta I have noticed this a lot. My girlfriend gets her hair done at a studio where a white guy cuts her hair, and also the staff is white. She told me a lot of black girls with relaxed hair come in there because they request white people texture hair, and styles in order to look more white European. I thought it all makes sense, because just look at America, 90% of black girls have relaxed hair. The only black women that have their natural hair are the Africans from Africa. Then when you observe that black women don't know how to do their own hair, their solution is always to relax it. I just had an epiphany.Do black women relax their hair in order to go to white hair dressers?
you put a lot of thought into this. maybe i shud become as obsessed with white people....nah.Do black women relax their hair in order to go to white hair dressers?
    Lol

    LIES!!!!

I would NEVER let a white person do anything to my hair,

I have never met a black person who goes to a white salon to get their hair done.

BTW black women usually get relaxers so that they can do their hair... our natural hair is hard to manage and there isn't much we can do with it.
Um most black women I know go to black hair dressers. Please do not use your most likely white washed black girl friend as a representation for all of us. I let a white girl do my hair one time and she didn't know what she was doing. They do have relaxers in black salons durrr..
I think black women relax their hair because it is course and curly. Just because they put chemicals on their hair to make it more manageable doesn't mean they are trying to be ';white.'; Your question was stupid but i'm bored at work so I thought i'd let you know.
Lol only black hair dressers do my hair. I don't relax my hair. I'm actually kinda scared of getting one because of what they do to your hair!
-_-' why do I get the feeling, you know this is crap you posted?

Isn't like relaxed hair is beautiful. Curly where it at(this does not include course hair or ';naps';)
gurl plz, next you gone say we get our nails done cuz we WANT to see asians.

    yea rite,

and ps, a black gurl do my hair.
most black girls i know dont like white people touching their hair because they dont know how to do it..
This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read here...and that is saying something.
    LOL

where do you get these wild ideas from?

    of course not you idiot

I recently moved to Bowling Green Ky and I am black and need a good hair dresser any suggestions?

Hi, can anyone recomend a good male hair dresser in the Black Country area?

I have had a closely shaven head for about 10 years now and I have always done it myself at home with my own razor but now my hair has been allowed to grow and I feel the time is right for a change! Obviously though I dont have a barber I usually use so any recomendations for someone will be appreciated but I would particularly like to hear about reasonably priced and friendly establishments who have knowledgable staff who can advise me about the best style for my face shape and be preferably located in the Walsall or Birmingham area, I also aint against recomendations for hairdressers who do home visits, cheers!Hi, can anyone recomend a good male hair dresser in the Black Country area?
theres a couple on three shires oak rd in bearwood. one is bright orange outside, but i cant remember the name. its by the bear pub. bearwood high st now has some funky salons on it. the orange barbers is called ikon, just remembered.Hi, can anyone recomend a good male hair dresser in the Black Country area?

Why do black hair-dresser take all day!?

Why do black hair-dresser take all day!Why do black hair-dresser take all day!?
because black hair requires different techniques and products than european or hispanic hair to make it look good. plus, black women like to have elaborate braids in their hair. sure, this process takes awhile but actually would take longer if white people were to do it because their hair is too fine to braid. Why do black hair-dresser take all day!?
lol because they like to talk.. but all do (not just black ones).

Just be glad he/she didn't rush through the job and fry your hair!
Well, in many cases, if they're working on black customers, they're doing something more complicated than just giving a hair cut--they're braiding, relaxing, giving hot oil treatments, adding weaves, etc. All of these take more time. Chill out and let them do their work.
i asked the same question to one of my co-workers. Black people's hair texture is different from white people and it takes alot of time treating their hair let alone braiding and hair extensions etc. Her hair-dresser works on more than one person at a time so therefore they have to wait in turn.
White ones do to. Not all black hair-dress do talk all day. They are good at talking because it helps there relation ship with the customers. Customers are important to hairdressers whatever there skin co lour. Without customers hair-dressers would be out of a job.

I am looking 4 a black muslim hair dresser who can give advice?

i am a black muslim soon to get married. i have short hair which sreads easily, i am worried that once i get married my hair will fall out because of ghusl which will have to be done after intercourse. what do you think i can do to look after it while still looking attractive for my partnerI am looking 4 a black muslim hair dresser who can give advice?
for a start sister ghusl isnt going to make your hair fall out, its only water. secondly i'm not sure where you live so i cant give you a specific hair. but i'm sure you can just go to any black hairdresser, ensuring its a woman and tell her to recommend any hair relaxers or hot oil treatment.

you can also look up essence.com because it has alot of articles concerning treatments for black hair.I am looking 4 a black muslim hair dresser who can give advice?
My mom. She's taught me a lot so I'll try to help. What is ghusl?? I can't even offer advice if I don't know what that is. :S Is it relaxer? If so, how your hair will handle it depends on your hair texture. Only kinky hair can handle it well enough without falling out but even so it's harmful to your hair and will prevent it from growing. If you have curly hair, your hair is fine enough with out it so never, ever use relaxer.

If that's not what ghusl is, please explain.

Where is a good Black Hair Dresser to get a relaxer. and how much does it cost??

In Northern VA. Loudoun CountyWhere is a good Black Hair Dresser to get a relaxer. and how much does it cost??
well it depends on where you live. i live in the suburbs of Chicago Illinois and if you look hard you can get a good price.

before my mother started perming my hair, i went to this place called Fantastic Sam's. on Wednesdays they do relaxers for $45. the only thing about it is, you cant schedule appointments and you will end up spending maybe 5-6 hours getting your hair done. but try looking for people you know to perm your hair. then just blow-dry when your finished and go to the shop and get a wrap. its just like getting a relaxer for less.

i guarantee it works!!Where is a good Black Hair Dresser to get a relaxer. and how much does it cost??
If you're new to an area, the best way to find the best stylist for african american hair is to ask. If you see someone who has really nice hair, compliment them, explain that you are new to the area and would like to know where they get their hair done. Salon relaxers can run from $40 to $100 and more, depending on the area you live, the reputation of the salon, and what other services you get (deep conditioning, cut, style, etc.).

  • When will the white house hire a professional hair dresser to do black peoples hair?

That was done in Jan when they hired a groomer for Michelle's unsightly back hair!!

God Bless you %26amp; yours, and Merry ChristmasWhen will the white house hire a professional hair dresser to do black peoples hair?
Actually, I think Obama lifted the Bush administration's ban on government funded, African American hairdressers in the white house back when he took office. When will the white house hire a professional hair dresser to do black peoples hair?
Michelle has two already, how many more does she need?

Oh, I see now, you were really asking when will they hire that KNOWS how to do black peoples hair.
As if you know anything about black hair! I doubt you know or are around any black people at all.
Yeah, Michelle is sporting a longer version of the Condi Rice hair style.

I have black hair and tomorrow im having my hair dresser make it blonde but how blonde can i get it?

??? HELP.I have black hair and tomorrow im having my hair dresser make it blonde but how blonde can i get it?
If it's dyed black, you probably won't get too far. Maybe to the orangey-yellow stage. Your stylist can tone it to not be orange, but it may or may not be light enough for your liking. However, if your hair is naturally black, you could probably get it pretty light.I have black hair and tomorrow im having my hair dresser make it blonde but how blonde can i get it?
Well, your hairdresser will probably want to take steps to get you blonde. Since, going from black to blonde can be damaging and risky. However, it is hard to say what shade you will come outcomfort ability say a darker or medium blonde, but you can never be too sure. Ask her tomorrow, before things get started just how blonde she thinks you can go.

If i have black red hair can i bleach it blonde at hair dressers or would it not take.?

Be careful what you do to your hair - by the time you're 40 it will look 85.If i have black red hair can i bleach it blonde at hair dressers or would it not take.?
no. you cant. my daughter was told this but did it herself anyway, 3 times in 2 weeks ( it's more like ginger), not good for your hair, she's lucky it hasnt all broke off, now she has the bleached bit pink and has extensions, but has to start again if she wants another colour.

I have black died hair, will the hair dresser be able to dye my hair a dark red?

Iv dyed my hair a natural black my self, however im wanting to go a deep red now, will th hair dresser be able to do this without bleaching or stripping my hair first? Also does hair dye not fade as much if it is done professionally?I have black died hair, will the hair dresser be able to dye my hair a dark red?
i did this and ended up having to do it twice. i didnt use bleach or anything, just straight hair dye. black i think, is the most permanent color of all. also, i find that dying your hair at a salon by a professional is similar to dying it at home. the difference is, they can mix colors for you, and it comes out to be more even. hope this helps and good luck!I have black died hair, will the hair dresser be able to dye my hair a dark red?
TO be able to get the deep red shade, you have to bleached you hair. Black can't be covered by Red. Even if let say, they will use the 12% peroxide, still you can't achieve the red side you wanted...
you cant dye light over dark

    stripping is at hand

Is anyone here a hair dresser for black ppl ineed to know some things?

do any of you know about the bumpers for hair instead of getting relaxer or perm. ive been hearing perm damages your hair %26amp; i havent had mine in for a long time %26amp; my hair looks different in a better way but i was thinking about going natural %26amp; i don't mean nappy%26amp; hard i just want to have my hair straightened without perming it. any ideas oh %26amp; i have color in my hair so ...

any ideas? Is anyone here a hair dresser for black ppl ineed to know some things?
i do a lot of black peoples hair including my own. i usually use heat protection and olive oil spray then i put a hot comb to it. that has to happen about every 3 weeks and for some every 2 it just depends if your hair is EXTREMELY nappy. olive oil hair products help the dryness stop most of the time so try getting some of them %26amp;see if it helps keeps your hair straight. i dont recommend you wash your hair daily because it may cause you to put more heat in your hair and since your working with black people hair heat is VERY damaging and causes breaking. hope this helps. Is anyone here a hair dresser for black ppl ineed to know some things?

  • Is it easy for a hair dresser to colour my black hair to a certain specific colour if I take a sample along?

i am getting choc brown extensions and will be dyeing my black hair to match them. im taking some extensionsto the hairdressers with me- will they be able to match it perfect?? or am i best to do it the other way round (i have no idea bout hairdressing obviously lol)Is it easy for a hair dresser to colour my black hair to a certain specific colour if I take a sample along?
It's easy to color hair. But depending on if your hair color is natural or colored, It may be hard to lighten. But yes, after all the lightening, They will be able to match your color. (Actually, If you ask for a Swatch, You can show them the color. A swatch book is a 'book' filled with smal sections of hair colored the color of what the colors, the color line has.)

Black hair, i dyed it a lighter colour (went to the hair dressers) but hasnt really changed, what to do?

Okay so about 4 weeks ago i went to the hairdressers to dye my hair a dark brown (number 4 on the chart i think).

My hair is pretty much black (number 2) and she said it would take a few weeks to change but i would see it progress, so far i've seen nothing. Only when im standing under light can i see a browny-red tint on the top of my head.

Everybody who sees it says it hasnt really changed at all, and i really want it to change but i know i cant use the supermarket stuff now anymore.

The hairdresser also told me repeatdly to keep using anti dandruff shampoo, because she said it will help dyed hair lighten up. But i've been reading things online and it just says anti-dandruff strips hair dye out of the hair, so i don't know what do now.

Also after she dyed it, about an hour later she washed through my hair with strong anti-dandruff shampoo because she wanted to see some result, (nothing happened) but she kept saying something would, but so far nothing.

Has this happened to anybody else? and is there anything you can suggest to help the hair dye come out...?Black hair, i dyed it a lighter colour (went to the hair dressers) but hasnt really changed, what to do?
Since you have black hair your suppose to pick 1 shade light then the color you wanted or 2 shaded lighter

Go back and dye it againBlack hair, i dyed it a lighter colour (went to the hair dressers) but hasnt really changed, what to do?
Do What Uu Thinks Best :) All Ii Can Say Is Good Look On That And I'm Sure It Looks Good Anyway :) xx
    dye it blonde.
once youve dyed your hair then it is hard to change it again the most you can do is wait til you can see your roots coming through.

i cant believe you wanted to dye prectically black hair brown. you wont see much of a difference as it has to be dark brown before it goes light brown. you have to keep redyeing it so it goes lighter or leave it and let it stay black. use the anitdandruff shampoo if you want to get rid of the dye but if you dont then when the hairdresser does it next time dont let her use it.
it is very hard to lighten your hair once you start dying it.

the only thing that will lighten your hair once you dye it any colour is bleach you could put a blonde on your hair and nothing would happen.

anti dandruff shampoo does tend to strip colour but not to the extent to lift your hair two shades lighter??

what did she do to your hair when she coloured it??

your best bet is to have it done in a salon a bleach bath which will strip some of the colour out your hair will go red then for them to dye over the top of that colour to make it a dark brown it will prob still be very warm as black is a very hard colour to get rid of.

having it done in a salon means you wont damage your hair they will know how much they could do to your hair without damaging it.

what did you have done when u went to the salon??1

I am new to the area and need to find an black hair dresser in fayetteville, nc?

I don't think the question has anything to do with being racist. Our hair requires special handling that many stylists who aren't black can't or won't provide. Here is a link to a website that lists black hair stylists in the Fayetteville, NC area. Good luck!
