I would think so in general. However, keep in mind the climate where you live if he/she is exposed to sun or cold.Their coat is their protection against the elements whatever they are. We had a sheltie for many years and we kept her in a ';puppy cut'; (shorter) to keep the shedding/hair problem down and she seemed to do fine.Is it ok to cut the hair short on a long haired chihuahua??
No. If you do he'll sit around the house all day and never bark or play.Is it ok to cut the hair short on a long haired chihuahua??
Not a problem, but I'd go with the puppy cut. Keep in mind, a pooch's skin is very sensative to the elements. If you cut it too short, he/she will be very prone to cold or sunburn.
I don't think it really matters...
Hair cutting is a matter of personal taste. The long haired chihuahua doesn't really need trimming, just regular brushing. OK, is a judgement. It is 'ok' to cut the hair on any dog, but it is necessary for some and not for others. Northern breeds really shouldn't be cut, but people will do it anyway. Removing mats with scissors if done carefully is usually safer than clipping and again the important thing is regular brushing.
