Most guys don't wear hair that long for a few reasons: 1)it takes a long time to groom, 2)it gives a negative first impression to a lot of people such as the ';meth addict'; stereotype and because of such stereotyping it is very difficult for guys with long hair to find jobs up to their potential or in this economy any job at all. 3) Most guys don't have a head and face shape that fully suits long hair.
If you want to make a more positive first impression on a majority of people, go for a much shorter haircut. Most adults like to see clean cut young men. Hair above the ears, mostly or completely off the forehead and above the collar. Three to four inches at most on top, or an ivy league or crew cut top. A guy with a super clean cut classic style makes a super positive first impression before he even says a word. Are you nuts? No, don't cut it. Be different. Conformists always look like clones of one another and it is really a bore. If your hair is long and curly it is probably gorgeous. Lots of girls find longer hair cuter, sexier, and reallllly desirable on a guy. Be yourself and leave your hair alone, but be sure to take care of it. You never know, the guy who said you look like a druggie may be jealous of it. Advice can come from a place of envy sometimes.
